The Brain Edit Retreat – A Journey into Self-Awareness

“It is in Silence that I found all the Answers”

I am so excited to now share “ The Brain Edit “ programme in the format of a retreat. I launched the first one last year in November 2024. The next one is to take place from the 6th – 9th of April at Christian Louboutin’s boutique hotel in Vermelho, Portugal. The plan is to eventually host the retreats a few times a year. I am also planning on bringing the retreat to different parts of the world as the concept evolve. This is hopefully just the beginning of a wonderful nurturing experience.

My goal is simple – to offer people an opportunity to take charge of their own mental health. In just a few days participants can get insight into how their beautiful minds work, get a true understanding of themselves and then learn practical ways to make powerful changes in their lives. Always making sure that I keep things simple, practical and easy to implement. I also chose to run the retreats over a shortish period of between 2 to 4 days in a setting that is peaceful, beautiful and geared towards truly nurturing the mind and soul. In less time I am focused on more results.

Last year the retreat was launched at Vermelho, in Portugal with a great success. I felt so lucky to launch this journey at my very close friend, Christian Louboutin’s hotel. He has always been so supportive of my work and fully understood my passion to share The Brain Edit as a retreat to the world. The date was agreed and before I knew it, it was the first day of my retreat. We had people from all over the world attending, many from different backgrounds, with different careers and also different age groups. A real good mix. We even had some sceptics who were brought their by their partners or friends. Now they kept me on my toes. It made for interesting discussions and definitely made the experience memorable. The great thing was that at the end of the retreat the feedback was so positive. Everyone felt that they had benefited in some way, learnt valuable tools and had an extraordinary experience. People said they felt reconnected to themselves again and was leaving changed. The memories of this first retreat will never be forgotten.

Mornings at the retreat usually starts with some group yoga, followed by a breakfast feast to fuel everyone for the day. The days are then filled with morning and afternoon lectures or activities. There are more than enough breaks in between for a bit of rest, spa treatments, other leisure activities  including lunch and dinners. In the evenings we round off the day with a mindful group activity that usually prepares everyone for a wonderful evening of rest. Afterall, it is in sleep that we usually heal, repair and solidify the days learnings.

The Brain Edit Retreat is focused on making the experience feel like it is tailored made for every individual participating. The mission is to give everyone something that is a personal takeaway to aid their mental health and well-being. I also decided to keep the retreats short so people could easily fit the time into their busy lives. Our wellbeing doesn’t have to stand in the way of our wonderful lives, just as our lives shouldn’t stand in the way of our own wellness.

Since a very young age I have been on a personal inner journey towards improving my own wellbeing and also heal from a challenging childhood. Definitely something that I will talk about more in one of my future blog post.

Let’s just say, it is actually no surprise that I landed up in the Health and Wellness world for almost over 35 years now. Helping others became my reason for getting up every day. I started off as a Personal trainer and eventually moved towards becoming a Pilates trainer. It was during that period that I started understanding the power of breath. In 2000 I was starting to delve more into the mind/ body connection. That is when I was introduced to Clinical Hypnotherapy. It made sense to me. With Pilates I was strengthening peoples core muscles and with hypnosis I could get to the core of peoples mind. I qualified as a Clinical hypnotherapist in 2001 and also became a NLP Practitioner. Everything I had studied and trained in seemed to compliment each other. I felt my path was definitely set.

But life had one more surprise for me. In 2014 I had 2 cardiac arrest on the same night and had apparently been without a heartbeat for over 20 minutes. I am lucky to still be here. My life changing health scare got me to really delve even more into personal wellbeing and mental health . That was the time that mindfulness and meditation was introduced to me. It was the science and research behind mindfulness that resonated with me and it was practicing meditation that proved the value of it to me. I had to share my new understanding with as many people as possible. Being a Clinical hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner gave me a brilliant foundation to build a new programme, adding mindful meditation to the fold. Thus, The Brain Edit programme was created. I implemented it into my practice as a therapist and even created a corporate version. The retreats was just the next natural step.

We are living in challenging times. It is definitely important to support each other. This is what I hope to do with my retreats. Give people another avenue for change and a space in which it is safe to evolve. There is so much on offer out there in the world, sometimes it is difficult to know what is for you. Let your intuition lead you. Perhaps you found this writeup for a reason. You decide…..
